For centuries, the Lessina landscape has endured exploitative human practices, ranging from marble extraction to cater to the region’s thriving tourism industry. In a competition to design a new data center in the Lessina mountains, our approach was to reflect the region’s human activities through architecture. We delved into the area’s history, typologies, and materials, aiming to make a statement. The data center itself becomes another instance of exploiting the environment, allowing us to critique this prevailing trend in a region where the landscape is persistently subjugated for human physical and emotional gratification.
